Happy Thursday! I know it’s not my usual day to post but you know sometimes life just happens and you just have to roll with the punches! 🙂 Today I’m excited to share with you my recap of SXSW as well as some answering some questions that I got from you! Many of you know I went to SXSW and I seriously had the best time! I’ve lived in Texas all my life and had never thought of going but not I’m addicted!
I got so many questions of what is SXSW, what do you do, is it worth it, etc. Today I will be answering those questions as well as giving you a little insight into my first time! If you haven’t checked out my full vlog recap check it out here. Let’s start with what is SXSW.
What is SXSW?
SXSW is short for South by Southwest and it is a conference & festival that showcases film, music, and the interactive businesses. The event last about a little over a week each year in March!
What do you do at SXSW?
Your experience will all be based on what you go there for. For example, if you are a big music fan or a part of the music industry then you will more than likely be there for the music. There are a ton of different shows & bands playing (think festival) as well as showcases for those looking for new talent etc. Same will go if you are there for film or the interactive portion.
Is it worth it?
For those that have never been, I’m sure if you look up their website and read the ticket prices you are probably blown back (I know I was) so you want to make sure you are investing in something. To be honest I can’t really speak on buying passes per say because there are a ton of free events happening while you are there. If you watched my YouTube recap or just followed along on my Instagram, then you saw all the events I attended and yes they were all free! I definitely enjoyed them and got to meet a ton of new faces and brands so to me yes it was totally worth it.
Is it worth it for a blogger?
Again I definitely think it was worth it, even if you don’t buy a badge. There were a ton of events that were free and definitely blogger related. There are also a ton of brands there so it’s a good time to mingle and give a business card. You never know, you may end up with a huge collaboration!
How do you find free events?
Research through social networks! Facebook was my biggest guide in this and it did help me find some amazing events but also just by walking around you will find something. Now it can be daunting to walk around until you find something but you can ask those at your first free event and most people are more than willing to share their knowledge with you.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
GO GO GO! Especially if you live in Texas! Also go with a buddy! It will make everything else so much more fun! I went with one of my best blogger friends and she made my experience that much better! We laughed, we hustled, and of course we ate & drank! Here are a list of the events that we visited:
Hermés Popup
WeWork
Car2Go
Female Quotient-Girls Lounge
YouTube Popup
Also when you get a chance make sure to check out the food and take photos in Austin! Trust me there are so many photo ops!
XOXO,
Silvia M.
