Finally we have made it to the wedding reception! I know it’s not Wedding Wednesday but I know this is something you guys have been wanting to see! I’m super excited for today’s post and I love going through our photos and remembering our special day. We honestly had such a blast and it will be memories that will last a lifetime. Without further ado lets get into our wedding reception.
WEDDING DETAILS + WEDDING COORDINATOR
I have to talk about my wedding coordinator because she KILLED it! She helped us out so much and I don’t know how we could have done it without her. First off we met up with her the day prior to drop off decor, drinks for the bar, and the linens. Not only that she was at the venue early the morning of our wedding setting up everything! She also came by our ceremony to make sure everything ran correctly and went back to the venue (which btw in Austin with Friday traffic is no feat).
Once at the venue she made sure everything was going to plan and would communicate with us if there were any hiccups. She took care of everything and us and honestly I can’t say enough good things. If you know someone getting married in the Austin area I highly recommend checking out Events by Makenzie! Mackenzie is so sweet and really makes sure to get it right and make it easy for the couple.
For the wedding, I had envisioned a romantic colored garden wedding theme. I definitely feel like it was achieved! I had my wedding at Hummingbird House and it’s beyond beautiful. The landscaping speaks for itself and we didn’t have to do much to the space for it to look beautiful. Of course our florist, Amy from Forsythia Florals, gave the perfect extra touches and pops where needed to be. Mackenzie finished the whole look with the wedding decor we had brought in like candles, signs, etc.
We did have a small wedding because of Covid so there was plenty of space around! We had a sweetheart table to help everything stay socially distant and it was perfect! I definitely wanted the sweetheart table to be the center of the attention since the DJ was going to be across from us. We had a stand that I DIY’d with a neon sign and eucalyptus garland. We had Mr & Mrs signs on our chairs & a pretty floral garland across the table with two taper candles.
For the main tables, we did a light pink linens with a simple centerpiece and candles. The centerpieces were different at every other table with either pink pampas grass or florals that were reused from the bridesmaids bouquets. Outside we had our welcome sign with guestbook, seating chart, & photobooth. It was perfect!
MUSIC
Our DJ did a great job playing all kinds of music that we loved! We chose DJ Aaron Ward because he came recommended from our venue & because he understood our energy. Everyone was up all the time dancing which is exactly what I wanted! We had discussed some music options beforehand for all our entrances & dances plus different music for him to play through the reception. I definitely feel like he understood what we wanted because he played so many great hits! I’ve shared a little bit of our songs down below.
WEDDING PARTY ENTRANCE: UPTOWN FUNK BY MARK RONSON
BRIDE & GROOM ENTRANCE: ALL I DO IS WIN BY DJ KHALED
FIRST DANCE: FROM THE GROUND UP BY DAN & SHAY
FATHER/DAUGHTER: EL PRIVILEGIO DE AMAR BY MIJARES Y LUCERO & LA POLLERA COLORA BY CHARLIE ZAA

BOUQUET TOSS: FORMATION BY BEYONCE
GARTER TOSS: CLASSIC MAN BY JIDENNA
FOOD & DRINKS
We were going back and forth on options and we finally landed on a caterer from Houston, Lighthouse Catering. They travel and did great! We did a plated dinner that included a house salad, Honey Dijon Chicken with mashed potatoes & mixed vegetables & bread. It was super yummy! For bartending, we chose Stallworth Bartending & Event Services. We had an open bar for our guests 21+ and a drink station that included sweet tea & lemonade. Also on tables we did have water pitchers for our guests. Needless to say food was delicious and drinks were a plenty.
CAKE
Originally my cousin who is a baker was going to make our wedding cake but with Covid plans change. We found this amazing baker who’s name coincidentally is Sylvia! Her shop is called Guiltless Goodies by Sylvia and she had so many great cake flavors & options available! We landed on a three tier cake & a UH theme grooms cake. The tiers were all different flavors we had a Strawberry cake with Cream Cheese filling, Ester Hazy with Whipped Cream, and Mexican Vanilla with strawberry glaze and the entire cake was a cream cheese icing. The grooms cake was a Chocolate Fudge cake with Bavarian filing and a buttercream icing all over.
PHOTOBOOTH
This was a total last minute add because we were on a tight budget but honestly it was the best decision! I had done so much research prior to choosing a photobooth and the one that I kept coming upon was Oh Happy Day photobooth! I originally wanted a glam booth but with budget we decided to do a Selfie Station and it was still so great! Our venue had a boxwood wall outside which made the perfect backdrop. It was so fun and we got all the photos & boomerangs from the photobooth to keep! Our guests loved it and it was great gift for guests! I highly recommend a photobooth if you aren’t sure what to do as favors/gifts.
WEDDING FAVORS/GIFTS
Since we got married in December we decided on having cute ornaments with our last name & date. My sweet mother made these of us and she did so good! They were clear glass ornaments, with vinyl writing, glitter inside them and a cute bow to finish them off. Everyone loved them and they were so on brand for the season. My mom gave me the idea of buying a mini Christmas tree and setting up all the ornaments on it. Let’s just say it was the best idea!
